Magazine Advertising Rates
A look at the costs of advertising in magazines.
magazine advertising has been around for a long time. In fact, it is believed that the first magazine advertisements appeared in the General - a magazine published by Benjamin Franklin in 1742. I think things have moved on a little since then.
However, even though magazine advertising trends suggest a different attitude to the way we look at advertising copy, one thing remains true for this and all forms of advertising media - getting your name and product in front of the right people works.
One of the interesting things to note about magazine advertising costs is that they have not really increased for last 20 years or so. So why is this?
Well, for many years now magazines have been seen to be more about 'name up in lights' advertising and less about huge response. When you add a recession of the early nineties, you get an economy which forces the magazine advertising industry into a state of flux.
Then, you bring Internet Advertising and other new media advertising formats into the equation and you have a form of media advertising that cannot really justify increases in ad rates.
However, this doesn't mean that anyone is losing out as a result. The advertisers seem to be happy and the costs for the publishers, in terms of design and print have not increased either. In fact, as technology moves on, rates seem to be coming down for just about everything in the advertising industry - just as well really.
With the developments to Online advertising and ppc advertising services, (pay per click) magazines have to retain some of their traditional roots as being a format read by people without haste. This remains the unique selling point for magazine advertising sales agents around the world and long may it continue to be.
